At North Shore Family Dental, we offer a variety of services geared toward keeping your teeth in the best shape possible.
Here are some of the services we provide to help you with that goal.
Professional Cleaning: It is recommended you get a professional cleaning at least every six months. A hygienist will clean and polish your teeth, exploring all surfaces of every tooth. If x-rays are needed, the hygienist will take full-mouth x-rays or bitewings (molars and pre-molars). In some cases, a panoramic x-ray is taken with bite wings. Typically, bite wing x-rays are taken at least once every year, and full-mouth or panoramic x-rays are taken every three years. North Shore Family Dental now offers digital x-ray technology, in which a small sensor sends pictures to a computer where they can be recorded and saved. This technology reduces radiation exposure to the patient and allows for almost instantaneous imaging for the dentist.
Scaling and Root Planing: Scaling and root planing is a form of treatment for periodontal (gum) disease. It is a deep cleaning of the teeth below the gum line. During this procedure, calculus (hardened plaque) is removed from the tooth. Root planing removes any remaining calculus and smoothes the irregular areas of the root surface.
Periodontal Maintenance: After completing scaling and root planing, patients will be put on a periodontal maintenance program—being seen by their dentist every three to four months—until they have normal pocketing.
Oral Exam: If you are a new patient, your dentist will perform a comprehensive dental exam, giving you an extensive evaluation of your oral health. For returning patients, your dentist will conduct a periodic oral exam, looking for any changes in your dental and health status since your previous visit. A comprehensive exam will be done every three years. After assessing your oral health, your dentist will develop a customized treatment plan that best fits your needs.
Sealants: Dental sealants (or tooth sealants) prevent the likelihood of tooth decay (cavities) forming on your teeth. Your dentist will use a resin to bond into the grooves of your teeth to form a smoother tooth surface, allowing dental plaque to be removed more easily. Being able to remove dental plaque more effectively should lower your chances of getting a cavity.
At North Shore Family Dental, we offer a variety of surgical services from root canals and tooth extractions to implants.
Find out about each procedure below.
Root Canals: A tooth that is badly decayed or infected may require a root canal. A “root canal” is the natural cavity within the center of a tooth. When a tooth’s nerve tissue or pulp is damaged, bacteria begin to multiply, which can lead to an infection or abscessed tooth—a pus-filled pocket at the end of a tooth’s roots. During a root canal, your dentist will remove the nerve and pulp, and clean and seal the inside of the tooth.
Extraction: When a tooth is damaged beyond repair, it may need to be removed. Tooth extraction is the removal of the tooth from its socket.
Implants: An implant serves as an alternative for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants are titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone and topped with realistic replacement teeth. This provides the security and usability of permanently placed teeth.

At North Shore Family Dental, we offer a variety of restorative services from fillings and crowns to bridges and dentures.
Fillings: If you have a cavity, your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and “fill” it. Your dentist may use silver amalgam or tooth-colored composite resin fillings to “fill” your teeth. In most cases, the patient has the choice of which material they would like to have used.
Crowns: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers a tooth to restore the tooth’s shape, size and strength. North Shore Family Dental now offers the CEREC restorative technique, allowing patients to get same-day crowns. Instead of having a temporary crown placed and needing to make a second appointment to get a permanent restoration put on, patients can now get their crown made and placed in a single visit.
Bridges: Bridges can serve as a replacement for your missing tooth or teeth. A bridge is supported by natural teeth or implants. Bridges are made of porcelain-fused metal or ceramics. A crown for the tooth or implant is created on either side of the missing tooth with a fake tooth (or teeth) in between.
Dentures: A denture is a removable option for replacing missing teeth and surrounding tissue. A denture may be complete or partial. A partial denture typically consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base, which is connected by a metal framework. Partial dentures are used when two or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.
North Shore Family Dental offers options to improve the appearance and alignment of your teeth.
Whitening: Professional-strength whitening take-home kits, which include custom bleaching trays, are available for purchase.
ClearCorrect™ (Invisible Braces): ClearCorrect™ is a clear and simple method of straightening teeth without actual braces. Patients should ask their dentist to determine whether they would be a good candidate for invisible braces.
